DeWitt Schools will be back in session tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, following more than a week off due to inclement weather. We are excited to return to our regular schedule and welcome students and staff back to campus. Parents and guardians are asked to use caution when dropping off and picking up students, as sleet and snow have been pushed into piles in some parking lot areas. Students and staff should also remain alert when entering buildings, as there may still be slippery spots and ice potentially sliding off rooftops. Safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we transition back to normal operations.

DeWitt Elementary Drop-Off Reminder:
For DeWitt Elementary parents and guardians, please note that in the back drop-off area there are only two designated spots where students should exit vehicles — between the numbers 1 and 2, and at the wheelchair ramp. For safety reasons, students should not be dropped off at any other locations. We kindly ask for your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure our smallest Dragons arrive safely to school each morning.

No School (3)
Dragon Community,

After spending the afternoon checking roads around the district, the DeWitt Administration team has made the decision that there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 2, 2026. This decision was not made lightly. The DeWitt School District is made up of over 900 square miles of students and staff who need to be able to safely arrive and depart from our schools. Currently, due to roads that are still covered in ice, safe arrivals and departures are not currently possible.

Also, at this time, the lingering ice and ice drifts on metal roofs are creating safety concerns across our campuses. These falling sheets of ice and delayed melting also mean adjusting how students and staff move throughout the day for classes, athletics, recess, student arrival and dismissal, and bus loading and unloading.

With temperatures expected to drop again overnight, refreezing will be a problem again Monday morning. Even with a delayed start and snow routes, the volume of buses, student drivers, staff, and families attempting to access campuses would create frustration and unsafe driving conditions. To ensure everyone’s safety, school operations will not take place on Monday, February 2. We are hopeful that with a forecasted high of 55 degrees and not dropping below freezing tomorrow night, we can all come back to school on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation with us as we try to keep every family in our large district in mind when making these decisions. Safety of our staff, students, and their families are always our top priority.

Heads up, Dragons! In DeWitt we are closely monitoring the incoming weather system. At this time, we feel confident that tomorrow will be a normal day of school and no early dismissal should be needed. IF the timing changes and the system moves in faster tomorrow, we will notify parents via school text and on social media of any early dismissal time as soon as possible. Please stay safe over the weekend and we will update the status of next week once the storm system moves out on Sunday and we can assess overall conditions. We will announce any closures or delays via school text, on social media and all of the major news outlets.
