Who says algebra has to be no fun!?? We’ve been learning about different kinds of functions and today we learned about Absolutely Value Functions. Student had to guess the number of die (isn’t that the plural of dice), find the absolute guessing error and then graph the function. Remarkably, no one asked if they could have the dice to shoot them later.

On Tuesday, the students in Mrs. Tanner’s Physical Science class applied their knowledge of writing chemical compound names (specifically ionic bonds) with a game where they roll dice and have to write the name and formula of the compound. Some are polyatomic ions. Fun activities help make learning new and complex content a little easier. The students had a fun time working together.

Last week in Coach B’s classes were especially meaningful. The students learned how to make homemade dressing, but it became much more than a simple cooking activity. Coach B shared a recipe that belonged to her mother, and with her mother’s birthday falling on the 13th, it felt like the perfect way for her to honor that memory. She was grateful for the opportunity to pass a bit of that love on to each of her students through this experience.

We are extra "Thankful" for our students, teachers, and the chance to share life experiences in our classes. This activity was just in time for Thanksgiving, and we hope that each one of you find time to rest and be thankful for all that you have next week.

Mrs. Henderson's art classes explored using pottery and sculpting this past month. Their inspiration was The Day of the Dead, a Spanish holiday celebrated each year around Halloween to honor the friends and family that have passed on. The students sculpted their own calaveras, which is a decorative skull that is used during the celebration. Traditionally, these calaveras can be created with cane sugar and decorated with items like beads, icing, and even feathers. They often are very colorful.

Please enjoy our student's creations!

Arkansas County Youth Growth & Development Program and DeWitt High School Awarded Arkansas Sheriff Red Ribbon Grant:

The Arkansas County Youth Growth & Development Program, in collaboration with DeWitt High School, has been awarded the Arkansas Sheriff's Association's Red Ribbon Grant.

This program will launch a new, structured prevention initiative aimed at empowering students with knowledge and life skills, as well as combine educational materials with advisory sessions, providing students with factual information about the misuse and consequences of vaping. It will provide our students with practical skills to help them live a healthy lifestyle.

The initiative will serve the entire DeWitt High School student body, reaching youth ages 14 to 18. Through a rotating schedule, small groups of students will participate in engaging, discussion-based sessions designed to encourage open dialogue and meaningful reflection. Each session will include interactive activities that reinforce key topics and help students apply what they learn to their own lives; promoting healthy decision-making, self-awareness, and responsibility.

This collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to creating safer, healthier school environments and equipping students with the tools they need to make positive choices for their future.

We are thankful for our partnership with the AR County Youth Growth and Development Program and the AR County Sheriff's Department.
