Yesterday in Mrs. Tanner’s 9th grade Physical Science class students explored projectile motion with a projectile motion simulator. They had to complete the lab by taking down data and then graphing the motion changing the velocity, gravity, and air resistance.

Thanks for allowing us to have a glimpse of the day Mrs. Tanner and students!

This past week in Coach B’s Foods and Nutrition class, students learned about the ingredients and techniques used in cookie baking. After the lesson, students baked chocolate chip cookies to demonstrate what they had learned. To spread a little sweetness around campus, students shared their cookies with other students and teachers. This cookie recipe is especially meaningful to me because it was taught to me by a wonderful lady, Mrs. Phyllis Bohannon. This baking lesson was done in loving memory of her.

Our environmental science class is bringing history, science and literature together through the novel, Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse! As students read about life during the Dust Bowl, they are investigating how human actions- like poor farming practices- helped create on of the most devastating environmental disasters in American History. It’s a powerful way for students to see how the choices we make can shape our environment for generations.

To support literacy, these classes have studied new vocabulary, read every day as a class, and had to use textual evidence to support their thoughts and ideas.

Thank you Mrs. McFerrin and the science team for protecting the importance of reading and helping foster a love to read and learn in all content levels.

DeWitt High School parents, students, faculty & supporters!

Help us by taking the "Buckle Up, Phone Down Pledge." This pledge is a confirmation or promise to drive without distractions and to make healthy choices while behind the wheel.

Anyone can pledge, and our school has a chance to win prizes if we get the highest number of people who are a positive example to all around them.

To complete the pledge, just go to the link: https://savearlives.org/bupdpledge/

You will sign the pledge and be counted in our pledge numbers. When you pledge, don't just sign up... sign up to set the example for others that you believe in driving safe and you value all who share the road with you.

Thank you!

If you don't see DeWitt High School as one of the schools listed, come back. We just registered for this so it might take some time to get our school name updated on the website.

In Coach B’s Food & Nutrition class, students explored the topic of fruits and vegetables and the many different ways they can be used in everyday meals. As part of a class group project, students prepared homemade salsa using fresh ingredients, learning valuable skills in food preparation, teamwork, and kitchen safety.

First and third period classes also made French toast topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries, discovering how fruits can enhance both the flavor and nutritional value of a dish.

This was a wonderful hands-on experience that allowed students to apply what they learned in class while building confidence in the kitchen. Experiences like these help students develop practical life skills and a deeper understanding of healthy food choices.
