Bus 49 is back on regular time, sorry for the confusion

Recently students in 8th grade Arkansas History learned about the prehistoric cultures that once inhabited our state. One particular subject of discussion was the advancement of tools and weapons as time passed. Students have all heard of the bow and arrow but not many know about the weapon that preceded it, the atlatl (pronounced attel-attel). This prehistoric weapon may look easy to use but most any 8th grader at DeWitt Middle School will now tell you that looks are deceiving and that making a successful throw with one of these is no easy task. Some students got the hang of it and a few even became atlatl masters! Caleb Simpson won the contest for the day with an amazing shot of 85 yards!! Wyatt Jones came in 2nd with a 74.5 yard throw and Griffin Whitmore took 3rd with a 72 yarder. There were many other students that proved to be regular prehistoric spear chunkers but the list would be too long to give all credit. To say the least, it was a fun day to get outside and have some hands on fun after a year full of virtual everything!!

It's Pre-Registration Time! This year, we will do pre-registration virtually. We ask that you view the tutorial videos to get information about the courses, then watch the how-to video to help you understand the Google Form, and then finally complete the Google Form. The links to all of these resources are provided below.
It is recommended that you and your student discuss possible courses they'd like to take next year and complete the form. This doesn't mean that all courses requested will be the courses they have, but it will give us a great idea of how to begin building their schedule for the 2021-22 school year.
Please contact DMS Counselor, Courtny Barnett, with any questions or concerns. 870-946-3708 or cbarnett@dewittdragons.net are her points of contact.

8th Grade Car Line Reminder: You will line up in your normal spot, and at 3:15, you will drive around to the front of DMS to pick up your car riders. Please form a 2 lane line as usual.
If you pick up a DHS student as well, they will walk to the front of DMS and meet you there.
We are doing this to accommodate the buses coming in behind you and to avoid backing up traffic on the highway.

We will hold Parent Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, March 2. They will be from 3:30-6:00 via phone. If you indicated you wished to speak to your children's teachers, someone will be calling you.
STUDENTS WILL NOT BE DISMISSED EARLY THAT DAY.

Snow days, snow days! We wanted to share this photo, taken by DMS 6th grader, Addison A. Your DMS School Family sure misses you!
Share your best snow pics with us by emailing Mrs. Rachel or Mrs. Barnett at: rmitchell@dewittdragons.net or cbarnett@dewittdragons.net.
We will share some of the pics later on.
Get all of your work caught up in Schoology if you can, and we will see you soon!

DMS Students:
We hope that you are all doing well & staying warm.
Please remember that today & tomorrow are virtual school days. The work that you submit will be counted for your attendance & grades in your classes. Teachers have let many assignments open for several days to allow you to complete them, but be sure they are submitted so that you can get credit for your work.
If you have any issues at all, message your teachers via email or Schoology. Someone will respond to you during school hours & try to help you.
Please be safe & stay warm! If you are able to, upload a picture of your snow fun in the comments!
-Mrs. Rachel

Don't forget today and Monday are virtual days for ALL DMS Students. Please check your work in Schoology for each class, and submit it before the deadlines. Email your teacher or me, Mrs. Rachel, if you experience any issues. A list of staff members and their emails can be found at: www.dewittdragons.net.
***Please make sure that you've submitted your work from yesterday as well. It was a virtual AMI day due to inclement weather. ***

DMS School Family:
A scheduled text just came out to you all, but due to the bad weather & the decision to have a virtual day tomorrow, Parent-Teacher Conferences WILL NOT BE tomorrow. They will be rescheduled, and someone from the school will contact you at a later date if you requested a conference.
Remember, tomorrow, Friday, & Monday will all now be VIRTUAL DAYS, and DMS students should check in and complete all work in Schoology.
May you all stay safe & warm. Contact any DMS Staff via email with any questions or concerns, and someone will get back to you.
Mrs. Rachel Mitchell, DMS Principal
