Ms. Seamon’s blocked classes developed memes using vocabulary words from The Giver. Students had to choose a vocabulary word and an image to go with that word. They then had to write a humorous caption that went along with the picture and demonstrated the meaning of the word.
Please enjoy some of their memes. Vocabulary & word study is an important part of building a student's comprehension skills. The students had a fun time with this activity.

DMS has that SPIRIT! As our football season comes to a close, we are proud of all of our students...football players, cheerleaders, & band members. This season was so much fun! Now on to basketball season! GO DRAGONS!
Thank you to all who supported our students whether you feed them, helped get them to the games, or just came out to show your support.

Progress Reports will go home with students today. Please review your child's grades, and if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the teachers to discuss. Thank you for your support!

We wanted to share some great news with everyone:
Congratulations! DEWITT MIDDLE SCHOOL has been recognized by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas as a school where students demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire! As you may know, the OEP creates an annual report entitled the Outstanding Educational Performance Awards where we recognize schools with high student academic growth. We think growth is the best indicator of the positive impact that your school is having on students.
In our Middle School Level report published today, DEWITT MIDDLE SCHOOL received the following awards:
High Overall Growth (Statewide)
High Overall Growth (Southeast Region)
High Math Growth (Southeast Region)
High ELA Growth (Southeast Region)
We are so blessed to have a wonderful group of students & staff who continue to excel and perform. Congratulations again on this well-deserved honor!

Alta Lockley & Vicki McClain visited our Family Consumer Science classes today to discuss and demonstrate the importance of food and kitchen safety. Students learned about cross contamination, food borne illness and healthy low fat cooking. In groups they prepared and tasted deviled eggs.

DMS Students & Parents:
This is just a reminder that students are to take their Chromebooks home at the end of each school day & charge them fully. Students should be sure to take them home so they will have their device should they need to complete school work at home.
Thank you!

Local Veterans: Please join us for a ceremony honoring all who have served our country. November 11 we will host a reception for our veterans from 9:00-9:30 a.m. in the DMS Library.
Our ceremony will follow at 9:45 on our football field.
Veterans: Please contact the school at 870-946-3708 to let us know you are coming.

Red Ribbon Week recap: We were crazy about crazy sock day!

DMS Beta Club sponsored a Canned Food Drive this month. Each grade was challenged to bring canned goods to donate to the Food Pantries of DeWitt & Gillett. 8th Grade took the prize for bringing the most food!
Mrs. Shanna Place, DMS Beta Club Sponsor, took her 7th period class to the Food Bank of DeWitt today to drop off the canned goods. The students were able to even help stock the shelves.
Thanks to our DMS students & Beta Club, we were able to help our communities by giving to those in need. This food will be used to pack Thanksgiving Food Bags for families in our school district.
DMS: Where ALL Belong, ALL Learn, & ALL Succeed!
8th grade FCSI students learned about the culture of foods this past week. We researched signature dishes and meals around the world, talked about their origins and even got a chance to try some.
Hummus comes from the Arabic word "Chick peas" which is actually the main ingredient. Rich in dietary fiber and protein, Hummus has been traced back to the earliest of ancient cultures as a staple in Middle Eastern and ancient Egyptian diets. Students learned how to make it from scratch and tasted it with veggies and pita.

JR Dragon Fans: We had a parent lose a set of keys that are very important. He lost them at the Dumas game (in Dumas) last Thursday evening.
If you have them or have information on where they are, contact Rachel Mitchell at the DMS Office: 870-946-3708.

DMS Red Ribbon Week started off to a good start. Day 1 was "Wear Your Red Day." Many of our students showed their pride to being drug free.
Make-up Pictures will be November 9.

Haven't bought your yearbook yet? It's not too late. Go to the link listed in the flyer to order. Be sure to order the DeWitt High School Yearbook, as our DMS Students & Staff are featured there.
Thank you!

Sharing a little late, but our DMS FBLA students were able to travel to the Fall Conference this year. They learned a lot about all types of skills to help them be successful in the future. One of the highlights of the trip was meeting Miss Arkansas, Whitney White.

Our 6th & 7th Grade students had a fun time taking part of the Hunter's Ed Classes this week. A special thanks to Coach Gunnell & Mrs. Linda Gunnell for organizing the event.

Please see the attached flyer for our Red Ribbon Week activities that begin this Wednesday, October 27.
