DeWitt School District will be closed tomorrow, February 19, 2025. This snow day was built into the 24-25 calendar and will not be required to be made up.

Just stopping by to recognize our awesome SRO, Mr. Randy!

Last week, Ms. Clawson's Social Studies classes worked on special projects to honor Holocaust Remembrance Day by engaging in meaningful projects that reflect on history, resilience, and the importance of remembrance. Students were asked to research and explore stories of individuals that experienced the Holocaust and create a butterfly in their honor.

Ms. Bell's secondary science class is currently exploring the fascinating world of bacteria, protists, and fungi. Last week, they conducted a lab experiment in which students swabbed the most frequently used surfaces on our campus and cultured their samples on petri dishes for 72 hours. When examining the results under microscopes, they were astonished by the microbial growth they observed. Through this hands-on experiment, students not only deepened their understanding of bacteria but also gained valuable experience in using laboratory equipment properly.

Ever wonder why detergent is so effective at removing stains like oil and grease? Well, it's just Chemistry! Mrs. McFerrin's class has been working all year to understand elements and chemical bonds. They did an experiment this week with water, which is polar, and oil, which is non-polar. They discovered that after adding dish soap to the mix, the oil broke down and mixed with the water and soap. Hands on labs helped make the connections and validate the concepts that have been taught in the class.

Another delicious day was had in FACS today! Students made bread from the beginnings with flour and yeast and paired it with their own made from scratch butter. They are studying kitchen safety, measurements, and lots of other cooking essentials this semester in Family Consumer Science! Thanks Mrs. Ullrich for making learning so fun. The entire DHS campus could smell the yummy deliciousness in every hallway. Enjoy our photos.
