4th Grade Literacy students are working on transition words in writing class. Recently, they used transition words to write a paragraph instructing the reader how to make a paper airplane. Once their paragraph was approved, they were allowed to make and fly their paper airplanes.
DES Music Students have been using recyclable items to make musical instruments! This has allowed the students to be creative, learn about instruments and learn the importance of recycling to help keep our earth clean!

Our DES second-grade students recently read stories about pioneers in flight. We have been learning about Orville and Wilbur Wright, Amelia Earhart, Jamail Larkin, and Bessie Coleman over the past few weeks. To close out our unit, we designed and constructed paper airplanes and collected data on their flight distances using measuring tapes.

We are celebrating growth on the ATLAS Winter Interim!
From the ATL:AS Fall Interim to the ATLAS Winter Interim:
92% of students in grades 3-5 grew in one or more areas!
We’re thrilled by the dedication and effort demonstrated by these students.
3rd grade- 90% of students grew in one or more areas
4th grade- 95% of students grew in one or more areas
5th grade-90% of students grew in one or more areas.

Mrs. Jessica’s 1st Grade class recently celebrated the 100th day of school. The students brought collections of 100 items from home to share and to use as counting collections for the day. They worked with partners to practice counting, grouping in different ways and counting by 10's & 5's. What a great way to celebrate 100 days of learning and to add excitement to math!

Exciting things are happening in the library for Kindergarten. After learning about book care, kindergarteners are now checking out library books.

BIG things are happening in Mrs. Traci’s 1st grade class. We are adding BIG numbers, counting BIG collections and reading BIG words!

Mrs. Ashley's first grade class has been practicing place value using base ten blocks! This is a great way to incorporate kinesthetic learning in math by introducing a manipulative! Introducing a manipulative, like a base ten block, allows students to use their tactile senses and feel the information as well as see it and hear it!

Recently, Ms Lisa's 1st Grade class had the opportunity to go outside and work with a partner for a science lesson! The partners traced each others shadows and 2 hours later they went back out to observe what happened to their shadows. This activity led to lessons on light and shadows, translucent, transparent and opaque , and discussions about the Earth's rotation and orbit and also moon phases.

DeWitt Schools will return to regular hours on Friday, February 21, 2025. We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow morning!

The DeWitt School District will be closed again on Thursday, February 20th. Although roads have improved today, we still have roads in town and outside of town that are unsafe (especially with tonight’s low temperature). We are hopeful to be back on regular schedule Friday, February 21, 2025.

DeWitt School District will be closed tomorrow, February 19, 2025. This snow day was built into the 24-25 calendar and will not be required to be made up.

Last week students in K, 1st, 2nd & 3rd created Arkansas Wildflower Pollinator Seed Bombs during kindness week. They were learning to be kind to each other and to be kind to the earth.
Today some of our 5th Grade students helped package up all of the seed bombs and distribute them to the classes.
This spring the students and their parents will be able to plant the seed bombs and start their very own pollinator wildflower patches!
