DES artists have been busy working on a variety of different projects this week. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students have been studying ceramics and sculpting with clay. They are learning about the kiln and the firing process. They have also been creating a collaborative piece of artwork to be displayed during our upcoming STEM night. Using the aerial photography of Noah Ruffin as inspiration, students are painting the Arkansas River on a large canvas.
Kindergarten, first, and second grade artists have been studying pollinators and wildflowers. They have drawn bees, created butterfly collages, and painted specific Arkansas wildflowers.
Our goal is to learn conservation through art and earn the title of School of Conservation Leadership with Arkansas Game and Fish.

Thirty pieces of artwork from DeWitt Elementary's third, fourth, and fifth grade artists were on display as over 600 guests filed into the Gillett gym for the event which is held each January as a fundraiser for the Farmers and Businessmen's Club.
Guests scanned a QR code using their mobile phones and voted for their favorite and most creative "coon". Fourth grader Amelia Richter's artwork was chosen as the winning piece. Richter received a prize of art supplies and will be recognized at next year's Coon Supper.
