DMS Students received their report cards today, January 10. Please review your child's 2nd nine week and 1st semester progress with your child. You may email your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns. Thank you.

8th Grade Parents:
8th Graders will participate in the "Choosing the Best Path" program starting next week. It is part of the YES (Youth Empowered to Succeed Abstinence Education Program) and is designed to educate students on making best health choices to live a healthy lifestyle.
All 8th grade students will participate unless parents write a handwritten note stating that they do not want their child to participate. Parent opt-out notes must be given to the office before the program starts. A parent note was sent home with these students today.

DMS Students will come home TODAY with AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) Work for 2 days should we ever have to stay home due to weather or a natural disaster.
Please put these paper copies in a safe place. Students will only have to do them if we are out of school. Students will return the work to school after an AMI Day, should there be one.
Thank you.

Here's a look at what is on the calendar for us here at DMS during the month of January:

DMS Students:
School will resume tomorrow, January 5, 2023. We've missed you all, and can't wait to see you.
Please remember to charge your Chromebooks and to bring them and your library books back to school!

Basketball Update:

DMS Parents:
We will do a Chromebook check on Thursday and Friday of this week. Please send your student to school with their Chromebook and their charger so that it can be checked.
Again, have them bring these on Thursday, December 15 and Friday, December 16.

Looking for the perfect stocking stuffer for your Dragon Fan? We still have a selection of Dragon Socks here at DMS. They are $15.00 each or $10.00 a pair if you buy 3 pair or more.
See the office if you'd like to add these socks to your shopping list.

We did it DMS!! This week we started Dragon Period, a 30 minute period of intervention and practice time. We wanted to give time to all students to get the practice or support they might need in areas such as: math, reading, and other essential skills.
All students and teachers gave it their best this week, and by the looks of things, there was a lot of good practice and discussions! Some students worked on finding the main idea of a story, others worked on linear equations in math, and others worked in a group doing a book study.
We are excited to see how our students grow by having this extra practice time built into the school day.
Great job TEACHERS and STUDENTS!!

UPDATED DECEMBER EVENTS AT DMS:
We had to moved the Band and Choir Concert to December 19. Please see the photo for an updated version of our December events.

Mr. Guest's 8th grade art students have really enjoyed working with clay to make unique pottery bowls. They are very patient as they mold the clay with the spinning wheel. Now we just wait for the clay bowls to be fired.

Just a reminder that tonight is our parent meeting...
7th & 8th Graders will participate in the "Choosing the Best Path" program. It is formally known as the YES Program and is designed to educate students on making best health choices to live a healthy lifestyle. There will be a parent meeting on Monday, November 28 at 5:30 in the DMS Library. This meeting will be a chance for parents to gain insight on the curriculum and topics that the program will discuss with students.
7th graders will start the program on Monday, November 28 through December 9. All 7th grade students will participate unless parents write a handwritten note stating that they do not want their child to participate. Parent opt-out notes must be given to the office before the program starts. They will bring home a note early next week giving you all of the details. 8th graders will begin their program after the New Year, and again, parents can write a note stating that they wish for their child to not participate if they'd like.
Please make plans to attend the parent meeting TONIGHT, November 28 at 5:30 p.m. if you are a 7th or 8th grade parent or guardian.

Mrs. Kim’s Life Skills class has been busy preparing a Thanksgiving feast. Today they were able to feast together with their friends and teachers. Everyone had a wonderful time and shared lots of Thanksgiving memories. Many of them went back for seconds, and even thirds. Thanks to everyone who made this feast one to remember!!

All routes are back to normal. No late buses this morning after all. Thank you.

Progress Reports go home today with DMS Students. Also, there is a note included that will give details about our upcoming "Dragon Period" that will begin December 5. We are committed to ensuring that all students have dedicated time to practice the skills that they need to be successful.
We hope that you all have a great Thanksgiving Break. We will be out next week, and school will resume on Monday, November 28.
We are thankful for you all, our DMS Family!

Please mark your calendars for our upcoming Band Concert. We hope to see you there.

In 6th grade Social Studies, we have been learning about Mesopotamia. Mesopotamian's writing system is Cuneiform and was written on clay tablets. In class, we used clay to make tablets and the students wrote their name on the tablets in Cuneiform.
Mrs. Leslie Baker
