From Mrs. Mandy Cotten: Students in 7th grade have been learning a lot about poetry and the many different kinds of poetry during a unit they've been studying in Literacy. Mrs. Cotten allowed students to create some of their own poems, and she has displayed their work on her door for all who pass by to admire.

At the end of October, 6th grade DMS Students attended a 2 day course on Hunter's Education. After the course, all 6th grade students were able to take their Hunter's Ed Test, and if passed were able to obtain their AR Game and Fish Hunter's Ed Card. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Linda Gunnell on organizing the program each year for us. We also thank Coach JD Gunnell and Ms. Deane McEuen for helping her get everything together and making sure that the program ran smoothly. Thanks as well to the many volunteers who come up every year to help teach the classes. Students learned about hunting safety, animal identification, and lots of rules that a responsible hunter must follow when they are in the outdoors in Arkansas.

7th & 8th Graders will participate in the "Choosing the Best Path" program. It is formally known as the YES Program and is designed to educate students on making best health choices to live a healthy lifestyle. There will be a parent meeting on Monday, November 28 at 5:30 in the DMS Library. This meeting will be a chance for parents to gain insight on the curriculum and topics that the program will discuss with students. 7th graders will start the program on Monday, November 28 through December 9. All 7th grade students will participate unless parents write a handwritten note stating that they do not want their child to participate. Parent opt-out notes must be given to the office before the program starts. They will bring home a note early next week giving you all of the details. 8th graders will begin their program after the New Year, and again, parents can write a note stating that they wish for their child to not participate if they'd like. Please make plans to attend the parent meeting on November 28 at 5:30 p.m. if you are a 7th or 8th grade parent or guardian.

8th Grade Students enjoyed a day of talking about The Industrial Revolution and the steam engine. Mr. Dollar has an electric replica of a steam engine, and the students really enjoy when he heats it up and shows them the process of getting power from steam. The discussion and presentation was very informational.
