Recently, Ms Lisa's 1st Grade class had the opportunity to go outside and work with a partner for a science lesson! The partners traced each others shadows and 2 hours later they went back out to observe what happened to their shadows. This activity led to lessons on light and shadows, translucent, transparent and opaque , and discussions about the Earth's rotation and orbit and also moon phases.

The DeWitt School District will be closed again on Thursday, February 20th. Although roads have improved today, we still have roads in town and outside of town that are unsafe (especially with tonight’s low temperature). We are hopeful to be back on regular schedule Friday, February 21, 2025.

Last week students in K, 1st, 2nd & 3rd created Arkansas Wildflower Pollinator Seed Bombs during kindness week. They were learning to be kind to each other and to be kind to the earth. Today some of our 5th Grade students helped package up all of the seed bombs and distribute them to the classes. This spring the students and their parents will be able to plant the seed bombs and start their very own pollinator wildflower patches!

Mrs. Alli’s class worked on the the word “is” and then used it in a sentence to describe friends in the classroom. Each student drew a name & then wrote a sentence about who they drew. They did such a great job, and each student loved seeing what was written about them!😊

DES artists have been busy working on a variety of different projects this week. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students have been studying ceramics and sculpting with clay. They are learning about the kiln and the firing process. They have also been creating a collaborative piece of artwork to be displayed during our upcoming STEM night. Using the aerial photography of Noah Ruffin as inspiration, students are painting the Arkansas River on a large canvas. Kindergarten, first, and second grade artists have been studying pollinators and wildflowers. They have drawn bees, created butterfly collages, and painted specific Arkansas wildflowers. Our goal is to learn conservation through art and earn the title of School of Conservation Leadership with Arkansas Game and Fish.
