This month DeWitt Elementary School students collected a total of 11,084 items during the annual food drive for the community!!!! We were able to donate 6,835 items to the Caring & Sharing Food Pantry in DeWitt, 4,149 items were split between the community food pantries in Almyra and Gillett and 100 items were kept at DES for our Food Backpack Program! Our students would not have been able to do this without the help of their wonderful parents, grandparents and guardians.
This year there was an added incentive of a Pizza Party for the grade level that brought the most items to donate. It was a close race all month, but on the final day, with a total of 4,035 items, our 3rd Grade students won the pizza party! Congratulations 3rd Grade!

DES art students were surprised this past week with a gift from Australian artist Pete Cromer. Cromer mailed two autographed copies of his books “Australia” and “Wildlife”. The hardcover books feature Cromer’s work and facts about the animals featured in his art.
Earlier in the semester, art students learned about the contemporary artist and created painted-paper collages inspired by his work. Art teacher Joli Holzhauer contacted Cromer and mailed pictures of the students’ art and the bulletin board display of collages. Cromer replied with a thank-you email and the surprise package. Students have been thrilled to make contact with this artist and have been looking through the books during art class.

Parents, this is a friendly reminder that all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students need to charge their Chromebooks nightly and bring them back to school every day. Thanks!
