In celebration of America’s upcoming 250th birthday, the Natural State invited school districts to send three pieces of artwork with the theme “Arkansas Celebrates My Community”. Students were encouraged to draw the unique aspects of their communities. Chosen to represent the DeWitt School District were Kruze Larson (K-4th grade category), Adalynn Adams (5th-8th grade category), and Savanna Smith (9th-12th grade category). Kruze Larson used colored pencils to draw a mallard and highlight the area’s popular sport of duck hunting. Adalynn Adams used oil pastels to create a landscape - the Arkansas County soybean field.
The ornaments are displayed on a holiday tree in the Old Supreme Court Room of the Arkansas State Capitol from now through early January 2026. Congratulations to these young artists!

Students were challenged with the prompt "Why I'm Grateful to Be a DES Dragon," and they poured their hearts into their pieces. Their responses were thoughtful, heartfelt, and full of pride for our school.
We held a small writing contest to recognize outstanding work, and four winners were chosen. We are so proud of all of our students for giving their best effort. These Dragons remind us every day why DES is such a special place to learn and grow

In Ms. Elizabeth’s 4th grade math classes, students are diving into fraction mastery! They’ve been practicing adding and subtracting like fractions and discovering how equivalent fractions help make these operations easier to understand. With collaboration, critical thinking, and lots of math talk, these learners are becoming experts at working with fractions in meaningful, real-world ways.
