Peace Week Art Finalists

DeWitt Elementary School was well-represented at the Arkansas Peace Week rally at the State Capitol on September 24, 2022.  DES had seven finalists in the statewide art contest sponsored by the Peace Week committee.  Four of the five finalists were in attendance as well as art teacher Joli Holzhauer.

Around 200 guests attended the rally and viewed the artwork submitted by students from around the state.  Finalists were chosen by a panel of judges including professional artists. Speaker Bob Estes of the Peace Week committee congratulated finalists on being selected from over 1000 entries.

DES student finalists, along with their artwork titles were: Abel Sollars, “Peace in Broken Places”; Arden Relyea, “Little Things Are Big”; Kara Mathis, “The Handshake”; Saniyah Sheppard, “Peace Heals the Broken”; Sara Christian, “Peace Sky”; Shyla Fitzpatrick, “Grow Peace”; and Dawsen Dupuy, “I Stand for Peace”.

The students’ artwork hung in the Arkansas State Capitol for Peace Week, September 18-24, 2022, and is currently on display in the halls of DeWitt Elementary.
