On the weekend of October 22nd, 20 families of DES 4th & 5th Grade students attend Camp Dragon at the AGFC Potlatch Education Center at Cook's Lake in Casscoe, Arkansas. Camp Dragon was the culminating event of the Outdoor Unit Mrs. Lindsay Beaton had been teaching in her Physical Education Classes. All 4th & 5th Grade students participated in the Outdoor Unit, learning about outdoor safety, orienteering, Arkansa Bears, tent set up and take down and outdoor games! Students had the opportunity to submit an application to attend the campout and 20 families were drawn to attend.

While at the campout the participants spent two days participating in many exciting activities! On Friday the students learned about bats, owls of Arkansas, dissected owl pellets, learned campfire cooking,  learned about astronomy,  and took a night hike to find constellations ! The evening was wrapped up with s'mores around the campfire and spooky stories! On Saturday the students learned about archery, played some outdoor activities and went on a hike around Cooks Lake!

This weekend wouldn't have been possible without the help of Wil Hafner, Lori Bailey and Karen Rowe from Arkansas Game and Fish Commission as well as the other staff members at Cook's Lake, Phil Slattery from Arkanas Post National Memorial, Mrs. Lindsay Beaton & Mrs. Holly Sloan and the parents and students who attended this annual event! We can't wait for Camp Dragon 2022!
