Art and Music DIsplay of hand crafted instruments and picture and art collages

A new installation in the DES hallway showcases collaboration between Art and Music students.

Each year, fifth grade Music students are tasked with creating handmade instruments.  All of these instruments are featured in this display and range from guitars to tambourines.  Many students worked with parents and grandparents to craft keepsake instruments that will last a lifetime.  Students will demonstrate their instruments during Music class in the coming weeks.

Music students also drew, colored, and labeled musical instruments onto wax paper.  Some of these assignments are also on display.

Art students have studied the life and work of artist Romare Bearden.  Inspired by his love for music and masterful use of the collage technique, students created their own musical collages featuring hand-drawn instruments.  Students were encouraged to make their own choices in the construction and materials used in their work.

Music teacher Casi Smith and Art teacher Joli Holzhauer worked together to display these featured pieces. You can see the amazing art work and hand crafted instruments by following this link: Music & Art Collaboration at DES
